3 Ways to Surrender to God
3 Ways to Surrender to God
If you're a Christian, you've more than likely heard of the popular saying, "Let go and let God". I can't tell you where the phrase originated from, but I do know there's a lot of truth behind it.
Here's a few ways you can tell if you need to "Let go & let God" in your life:
o Does something in your life seem out of control?
o Do you have more problems than solutions?
o Do you feel like you're stuck or at a standstill in life?
o Are you overwhelmed no matter how hard you try?
If you answered yes to any of these, it's time to surrender.
Here are 3 ways to surrender to God that are supported by His Word:
1. Obey Him
This seems like an easy one, but when was the last time you really obeyed God? The Bible tells us:
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
(James 1:22)
Most of us deceive ourselves by acknowledging what God wants us to do, but not actually doing it. In order to fully surrender, we have to follow through and obey Him.
2. Be Still and Know
Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today...The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."
(Exodus 14:13-14)
This verse reminds us that God delivers us, protects us, fights for us, and expects us to trust Him. Sometimes the best action we can take is no action at all. God's direction isn't always the easiest way but he does make it clear that sometimes we only need to be still and let him handle the rest. Surrender with stillness and watch your problems shift.
3. Trust Him
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
(Proverbs 3:5-6)
You think you have it all figured out, but let's face it- you don't. Trusting God with all of your heart and letting go of how you view a situation is one of the best ways to surrender. Submitting your thoughts, trials, and emotions to Him will not only lighten your burden, but He will make your path straight.
