Qur'anic Botany

Botany is a branch of life science which deals with the study of plants, which are living organisms and are of different types micro, green and even non green all green plants synthesis their own food with the help of C02 and H20 in presence of sun light, plants are main source of our food. The divine revelation Quran deals following species of plants Mustard tree or tooth brush tree, Acacia, Onion, Pomegranate, Grape, Fig, mustard, Euphorbia, Sweet basil, Gourd, Cucumber, Garlic, Lentil, Ginger, Heena, Cedar, Olive, Date, Manna, Tamarisic, Cactus-Bitter, Blessed Tree.

In addition to the above named plants Qur'an deals about agricultural crops, fruits, grains, vegetables, fodder, leaf, thrones and seed germination phenomenon.

Some of the important plants are as follows:

Tooth brush Tree or mustard tree

Quranic name - Qamat
Arabic name - Miswaq or Al-Ark
Urdu name - Peelu or Ark
English name - Tooth brush tree
Botanical name - Salvador Persica

“we have provided them (for Sabai generation ) bitter tasted fruits and plants” (Sura saba 15).

In Sura Saba, Ayat 15, Quranic name of the plant Qamat is translated as peelu plant but some have translated it as bitter tasted fruits. Peelu is in fact Salvandor Persica.

Hadith - If it was not burden for my adherence, I should made it compulsory to practice (Miswak) after every namaz (Sahi Buqari).

Peelu (Qamat) is the native of Adan, distributed all over the Arab, Arabian people call it as Al-ark or miswak plant used for brushing.

Hazarth Abi Zaid (Al-khafiqi narrates that Mohammad(PBUH) states that, if peelu is not available better to brush with Anum or Sanubar.

Chemical composition of Qamat plant: Chemically it contains Tri-methal Amine,Salvadorine, Alkaloid, chlorine, nitrogen, potash and phosphoric anhydride which all helps in healthy tooth system.

Olive, Pomegranate, Dates and Grapes:

Allah is the one who sends water down from the sky therewith we brought froth plants of all kinds and from them the verdure and we brought forth from it the clustered grains, and from the palm trees its spathes with bunches of dates, the gardens of grapes, olive and pomograntes, similar and different look at their fruit when they bear it and their ripeing, varity in that their signs for people who believe (Quran 6:99)

Quranic name - Al-Zaitun
Arabic name - Zaith
English name - Olive
Botanical name - Olea Europaea Linn
Famil - Oleaceae

Nativity of Olive in Quran

“ Zaithun is a plant of useful characters neither of east nor west” (Sura Noor – 35)

Meaning of the above verse according to an english translator of Quran Abdullah Yousaf Ali, it is of neither east nor west but it is a world wide distributed plant.

Hadith - Abu Hurara narrates Mohammad(PBUH) states that apply and eat Zaitun oil since it is a remedy for seventy diseases and Leprosy is one among.

Chemical composition of Olive: Oleic acid, stearic acid, Myristic acid, palmatic acid, linolic acid, arachidic acid and non-drying acid.
