The virtue of memorizing the Holy Quran
Allah (SWT) has blessed Muslims with a well-protected book suitable for all time and all place, a book with many favors on everyone who understands its meanings and memorizes its verses, it’s the Holy Quran. With it, Allah raises up the people and guarantees them happiness in this world and in the Hereafter. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "The one who was devoted to the Quran will be told on the Day of Resurrection: 'Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite”.
The Holy Quran is considered to be the origin of the Sharia law with its teachings and sciences. However, only those who comply with the teachings and understand the meanings of the Quran will be granted its virtues, not those who read it with an inattentive heart. In this context, the virtues of memorizing the Quran can be explained in two main points, its virtues in this world and its virtues in the hereafter.
The virtues of memorizing the Holy Quran in this world:
Present days are characterized by a stressful lifestyle which is unbearable by the human-being; unfortunately this situation makes him vulnerable to several psychological problems that could lead him to commit suicide. In this context the Quran is considered as the best treatment to overcome life’s pressures and bring peace to the hearts, Allah (SWT) said “ Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest”(13/28), it heals as well all psychological problems as Allah said: “ We reveal the Quran, which is cure and mercy for the believers” (17/82).
Besides, the Holy Quran has a great merit in improving the morals of the Muslim, as it is a fountain of virtues, and a source of faith and right guidance, it repels devils, who are not only the cause of all misguidance and corruption in one's ethics and dealings, but also in the matter of his religion and his world. The best example is The Holy Prophet, who was described as the Walking Quran because of the ethics and precious qualities that he had. The Quran makes the human enjoys pre-eminence and value within the Muslim community, according to this Hadith: "Verily, Allah elevates some people with this Quran and abases others".
The virtues of memorizing the Quran in the Hereafter:
As we have pointed out at the beginning of the article, the Holy Quran guarantees happiness of the world and the hereafter to those who memorize it, and will be there intercessor on the Day of Judgment, the Prophet (pbuh) said: "Read the Quran, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection”. The Quran also saves from the torment of Hell-fire, as a proof the Prophet’s Hadith: “If you put the Quran in a cuticle, and then you throw it in the fire it will burn not". According to Islamic Scholars, the term (Ihab) cuticle means one who memorizes the Quran and contemplates its meanings.
In the same context, the Hafiz of the Quran has a great place on the Day of Resurrection, and will be accompanied by Angels according to the Hadith of the Prophet (pbuh): “The one who recites the Quran and he is proficient with it, then he is with the noble and blessed Angels " thanks to good deeds he may have earned without difficulty when reciting Quran, as stated in the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh): “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward”, in the Quran Allah (SWT) said: “Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills”(2/261).
