Under the orders of Ottoman Sultan Mehmet I, the mosque was designed by architect Haji Alaeddin and executed by builder Omer bin Ibrahim in 1414. True to the design of Ottoman mosques, it features bright, intricate designs, a high dome, magnificent marble door frame and imposing minarets. Calligraphy and canopy-covered faucets were also incorporated into the design during the 19th-century series of restoration.
